Shakira performs for crowd of TWO MILLION at free concert on Brazil beach

Shakira performed for a huge crowd of two million people on Saturday night during a free concert on a Brazilian beach.

The singer took to the stage on Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, around 11pm as the massive crowd gathered to see the Colombian star perform.

The concert was part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran – Women No Longer Cry – world tour, which is named after her 2024 album.

During the show, Shakira reflected on her first time in Brazil, nearly three decades ago, she said: ‘I arrived here when I was 18 years old, dreaming about singing for you.

‘And now look at this. Life is magical.’

Shakira sang fan favourites,  Hips Don’t Lie, La Tortura, and La Bicicleta before ending her set with the song BZRP Music Sessions #53/66, which followed her separation from Spanish football player Gerard Piqué.

Us women, every time we fall we get up a little wiser,’ Shakira said.

Shakira made sure to put on an incredible show with several eye catching custom made outfits by Etro.

The pop star was also spotted waving a Brazilian flag as she walked the length of the stage before concluding with a huge fireworks display.

Her performance follows the likes of Lady Gaga last year and Madonna in 2024 who also performed on the beach to a huge number of people.

Rio Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere wrote on X that two million people attended the gig, declaring: ‘The She-Wolf made history in Rio.’

The free concert is part of City Hall’s attempt to boost economic activity in the area after Carnival and New Year’s Eve festivities and before the monthlong Saint John’s Day celebrations in June.

‘For us, parties are serious business. Because parties generate jobs, income, development, and identity for the city,’ Cavaliere said on Wednesday, as he presented the city’s operational plan for the event.

‘Our investment in this show will give us a financial return 40 times greater,’ he said.

The performance was expected to generate around 777 million reais (around £114 million), according to a study by City Hall and Riotur, the municipality’s tourism company.

It comes after a crew member helping assemble the stage structures for Shakira‘s free concert at Brazil‘s Copacabana Beach died.
